Can I claim my parent?

In some cases, you can claim your parent as a dependent on your tax return. Generally, in order to claim your parent, they must have earned less than $4,700 in 2023 and you must pay for at least half of their living expenses.
Claiming your parent will not qualify you for the Child Tax Credit (CTC) or for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
